Multiple Attractions
Dramatic natural scenery, waterfalls, and glacial lakes are friendly for both casual hikers and more experienced adventurers.
Fire Torch Festival (火把节) in July is the most famous event. Entire towns gather in traditional dress for bonfires, wrestling matches, bullfights, and singing competitions.
Local markets sell handwoven Nuosu textiles, silver jewellery, embroidered garments, and herbal medicine handmade by Nuosu locals.
Liangshan is one of the few places where visitors can witness animist rituals for blessing and exorcism, fortune-telling and healing.
Affordable and Friendly
Liangshan is a budget-friendly destination. Accommodations range from local guesthouses to mid-range hotels, Mid-high chain hotels only costing around €50.
Unlike Tibet, Liangshan requires no special permit to visit. The region is safe, and locals are generally curious and kind to international visitors. While English is not common, translation apps and some English-speaking staff at tourist sites are available.
Hainan Airlines has direct flights between Dublin and Beijing, China, which take approximately 10 hours. Upon arrival in Beijing, travellers can connect to Xichang, the capital of Liangshan Prefecture, via domestic flights or high-speed trains. Won’t take more than 3 hours.
